BACKGROUND: October 23, 1933 2:45 p.m. John Dillinger, Harry Pierpont and Charley Makley enter Central National Bank of Greencastle. The gang quietly walk out the door and escaped with over $74,000 without firing a shot. It was the biggest bank robbery of Dillinger's careers.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT: The town hired George F Roth to construct a new jail to replace the smaller jail which was built in 1878. The new state of the art "escape proof" jail was referred to as Putnam County's Alcatraz and was completed in 1939. The cell and quarter construction of the steel is identical with that of the famous federal penitentiary on Alcatraz Island. Alcatraz was constructed by George F Roth as well. This is the jail that still stands today.
WHAT HAPPENS NOW: We scare the crap outta people. You in?
